Claudia Cotrutza French
Born near the Danube in Romania, this young artist’s family moved to the north to live in shadows of great mountains, cathedrals, monasteries, and dark castles. Educated in textile design and painting at Brasov’s School of Fine Arts and University of Popular Art and Science, Claudia became known in her communist community as a fine craftsman in the restoration of icons and antiquities as well as a published poet while still a student, proceeding to the creation cutting edge textile hangings, abstract paintings, and portraiture. Sadly, most of these works were stolen from her and her benefactors during the downfall of the Ceausescu regime and during her escape to the United States.
Claudia’s work since in the United States falls into the following series:
Paper collages
Paintings – super reality, abstract, mixed media in execution.
Icons and crucifixes – traditional and expressionistic
Portraits – both traditional and expressionistic
Claudia works out of her studio near the Santa Ana River in Corona, California.
